Varenna- Bellagio-Menaggio: The three golden towns.
Varenna and the center of Lake Como were old famous international tourist destinations : the villas and big hotels of center of lake como often had famous guests. Do not miss, even for the hurried tourist , Villa Cipressi and  Villa Monastero in Varenna , the Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo with its stunning flowers that color the magnificent park and the Villa in Lenno Balbianello (with the scenic park on the promontory descending towards the Lavedo lake), the Villa Melzi in Bellagio. The first certain of Varenna existence, for now, lies in the will of Deacon grateful Monza year 769. Involved in the war between Como and Milan in 1126 was defeated and sacked by Comaschi, in 1169 however, after the destruction of the island Comacina, Varenna became the richest country in the lake.
